Getting started
Joining an event
Ask the organiser for the six-character join code, then tap the person + button at the top of Home and enter it.
Creating a session
Tap the green + in the middle of the tab bar. Creating and running sessions requires the Organizer Unlock, a one-time US$9.99 purchase — not a subscription. Everything else — joining, playing, entering scores, and following standings — is free and always will be.
I have a promo code
Tap the green +, then Redeem a Code and enter it. Promo codes grant Organizer access for free; they are not a way to buy the unlock outside the App Store.
Common questions
What is my rating?
PicklePlay keeps its own internal rating from 2.000 to 8.000 that lives only in this app and is not connected to any other rating system. You can start from a rating you already hold elsewhere, or from your own honest assessment. Its only purpose is helping organisers arrange balanced games.
Why can I only change my rating once a month?
To keep it meaningful. If ratings could be edited freely, the balancing would stop working. After a manual change the app shows you the date you can next adjust it. Match results keep updating your rating in the meantime.
Can I hide my rating?
Yes — Me → Settings and turn off "Show my rating to others". Other players then see "Hidden". You can change this at any time; it is not subject to the monthly limit.
Who can see my sessions?
Only people playing in them, and your friends. Rankings are separate and opt-in: you appear there only if you turn on "List me in Rankings" under Me → Settings.
What does adding a friend do?
Friendship is mutual — the other person has to accept. Once they do, you can each see the other's upcoming sessions, match history and rating. Removing a friend stops that in both directions.
I was blocked from joining an event
That session has a minimum rating and yours is below it. Your number is never shown to anyone, including the organiser if you have it hidden. Ask them — they can admit you individually from the play console.
I am on the waitlist
The event was full when you joined. If someone leaves, the app moves people up automatically in the order they joined.
A score was entered wrong
Any player in a match can enter its score while the session is running, and the organiser can correct any score afterwards. Corrections are safe: every rating is rebuilt from the full history, so a fix never stacks on top of the old result.
Why didn't my rating change?
The session was probably marked casual. Casual games are recorded and count towards your record, but move no ratings. They are labelled as such rather than shown as a change of zero.
What does the “?” after a rating mean?
The rating is still settling — you have not yet played enough different partners and opponents for the number to be trusted. It goes away on its own.
I bought Organizer Unlock but do not have it
Open the unlock screen and tap Restore Purchase. Make sure you are signed into the same Apple Account used for the purchase. If it still does not appear, email us with the date of purchase.
How do I delete my account?
Me → Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, photo, rating history and session records. It cannot be undone.
Reminders are not arriving
Check Me → Settings → Reminders is on, and that notifications are allowed in iOS Settings → Notifications → PicklePlay. Reminders arrive 24 hours and 30 minutes before sessions you have joined.
Requirements
iPhone running iOS 17 or later. An internet connection is needed to sync events and scores.
